Eastern Europe dominates with Belarus coming at #1 for the most drinking nation in the world.
A couple of interesting things to note:
- Belarus came in at No. 1, despite its low GDP.
- Western Europe came in at a firm 2nd place in terms of regions.
- The tiny principality of Andorra, nestled right at the border between France and Spain, came in first among the Western Europeans.
Fun fact: Andorra is one of the few places in Europe to get genuine absinthe, the drink thought to have driven Van Gogh crazy ...
- Despite the perception of Nordics being high drinkers, Sweden came in all the way back at No. 50.
- Finland was No. 1 among the Nordics, coming at No. 16, but the Finns are not of the same people group as the rest of the Nordics.
- Among the outliers, South Korea, an East Asian nation, came in very high at No. 17, right after Finland, sandwiched in between the East Europeans.
No other East Asian nation came close.
- United States could not compete with the Eastern and Western Europeans, coming in near the end at No. 47.
